Overcoming Technological Inequity in Synchronous Online Learning

The recent coronavirus disease of 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic possibly represents a catalyst for broader changes looming ahead higher education, which includes shift to online learning. Researchers have proven synchronous learning components reduce the transactional distance that students experience in environments, and such play an important role many information systems (IS) courses. However, who cannot reliably access technological resources they need remain left behind these environments. We summarize strategies individual IS faculty institutional technology (IT) departments can implement assist students. Faculty-level include implementing complementary asynchronous features, clearly communicating expectations, intervention foster collaborative work. Institutional solutions providing software applications via cloud them remotely loaning computer as laptops lack effectively training These measures will help education institutions bridge becomes more prevalent months years ahead.
